In honour of his retirement, Deus Ex Machina were asked to build a custom motorcycle for the likeable racer from Spain. When he was asked to create a bike for Dani, Michael ‘Woolie’ Woolaway didn’t beat around the bush and it wasn’t long until he came up with a concept for a bike based on Dani's favourite motorcycle style. For someone like Dani, Deus Ex Machina wanted to make this bike truly meaningful. With Dani being a Honda rider, it came as no surprise that the CR500 motor was the perfect centrepiece, fitted with a hand-built chromoly frame and body works that embodied a healthy mix of Americana and dirt track DNA. The finished bike can only be described as a certified weapon – a custom sword for the ‘Silent Samurai’ himself – Dani Pedrosa. Well, it’s time to find out! We’ve got Mat in the Rimac, and he’s lining up against MotoGP legend Dani Pedrosa on the Red Bull KTM and a supercharged Suzuki Hayabusa! So let’s see how the three stack up. Starting with the Rimac, it’s packing four electric motors, and they combine to produce 1,914hp and 2,360Nm of torque! It’s also housing a 120kWh battery, so naturally, it’s pretty heavy, weighing in at 2,300kg. It’s also super expensive, coming in at around £2,000,000! Alongside Mat, we have the MotoGP bike. It’s powered by a 1,000cc engine that can produce 270hp and 120Nm, and of course, it is SO much lighter than the Rimac, weighing just 157kg! Then finally we have the Hayabusa. But this is no usual Suzuki Hayabusa! It’s had a supercharger fitted to it, and as a result, its 1.3-litre 4-cylinder engine produces 380hp and 340Nm of torque! This bike is equally light, tipping the scales at just 257kg. So how will this one play out - will the Rimac snatch the win? Or could one of the bikes claim the chequered flag? Honda team-mates Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa took a break from two wheels at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria swapping their Repsol Honda RC213 bikes for the might of a V8-powered Red Bull Racing RB8 as used in the 2012 F1 campaign by Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. This time, we got Dani Pedrosa to try, and the results are... quite surprising. All this goes in preparation for the MotoGP stop in Germany. The tight Sachsenring is one of the slowest-run races on the calendar, but racing at close quarters makes for a bruising, elbows-out, all action event. The first bike races in the area were held in 1927, on the roads and streets in and around Hohenstein-Ernstthal. By 1990, and with reunification beckoning, street racing was too hazardous to continue. In 1996, the purpose-built Sachsenring was opened near Chemnitz and hosted its first MotoGP race in 1998. Many improvements have taken place since then, including a drastic layout enhancement in 2001. The 2017 event saw Marc Márquez seal victory to kickstart a late-season charge towards the title – will 2018 prove to be as pivotal? From a very young age, Dani Pedrosa the SAMURAI knew he wanted to be a racer and lived up to his dream. He had the longest relationship with Honda while giving some of the best performances possible with the occasional ups and downs and it was nothing less of a shock when he ended his contract with Honda and moved to car racing. What was going on with Dani? Broken collarbones, broken ankles, multiple surgeries! Dani has had to face them all and was even forced to sit out 14 races throughout his MotoGP racing career because of injuries. But the resilience he displayed in battling and coming back strong from the crippling obstacles were the most significant memories he took with him when he retired from the MotoGP world championship. The victories, failures, and even crashes. Just how much did Dani Pedrosa go through? As we dive into his fantastic 18 yearlong motorcycle-racing career, keep an eye out for the details. Dani Pedrosa the SAMURAI was born in Spain. By the age of nine, he tasted real racing after joining the Spanish Minibike championship. He completed the season in second place with his first-ever podium finish in the second race. Pedrosa participated in the championship again next year, but due to health problems, he could not get better results and completed the season in position three. Pedrosa had his 125cc World Championship debut in 2001 after being picked from the Movistar Activa Cup. He claimed two podiums in the first season and had his first win the following year by finishing the championship in third place. SHOULD WE ALLOW Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez RACE ON SMALL BIKES? We always watch motorcycle racing done by the greatest motorcycle rider like Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo. Normally they use bigger cc engines really designed for racing, Fast motorcycles. But what if these riders will use smaller cc engines not designed to be used for racing? Behold! This is what happened in a Honda event in japan where no other than the current motogp champion Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa rode in a small engine Honda supercub with 110cc engine only! It so funny and quite weird having this rider race just like what they do in their own race bikes in motogp. They have the same skills and techniques only much much lower speed :-) Plus very quite fun to watch! instead of these racers speed zooming infront of the audience in just milliseconds. Using these small bikes takes much slower and tiny weeny sound. The race is done in Japan circuit track with other participants who are also known japanese riders and other fans of supercub motorbikes. Definitely this is a very exciting event made possible by Honda motors Japan. But do you think we should allow these motogp riders ride this small bikes which is prone to cause tire slips due to very thin and narrow tires. In todays show Vanessa visits the home of Red Bull to meet Mirko Flaim, Red Bull Helicopter Aerobatic Pilot, to introduce us to some of the Red Bull aircraft fleet, and to take a joyride in his helicopter. Vanessa handles the g-forces like a champion and enjoys the spectacular airborne manoeuvres. Landing at the headquarters of the KTM Factory Racing Team, Vanessa chats with some of the team riders while they take care of some PR duties. Riders swap their racing leathers for tools and attempt to be a mechanic for the day. Better stick to the track guys. 😂 Vanessa asks some of the riders what they like most about the race circuit, including Jack Miller, Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez (Marc scored his 59th pole position this weekend), before meeting Dani Pedrosa for a hot lap of the track in the new BMW Safety Car. Dani provides some unique rider insight about the track. Next, Pedro Acosta meets up with our host Vanessa to introduce the young future talent of MotoGP to Miguel Oliveira who rides for the Red Bull KTM Tech 3 team. The pair compare notes about their respective bikes and talk about what it takes to be a top class rider, with Miguel providing some valuable advice.
